What Are Strongholds? - Free Indeed - Abundant Living After Abuse

Strongholds when broken down can be understood a bit better, for me at least that is what I have come to understand. The word stronghold is made with two distinctive words that are placed together, strong which is about power and strength and hold that is about embracing or bondage. Holding is not a bad word and neither is strong but when you put these two words together then they become a powerful word. What creates a stronghold can be physical and spiritual. For the month of April, we will be discussing spiritual strongholds and our healing process. Strongholds are born from defective thinking derived from deceptive tools from Satan’s master tool box. Satan has been using deception since his post in Heaven as an Angel of Light.

Strongholds are masterfully structured and are Satan’s weapons of destruction for the soul. Strongholds once entered through our thought process and in this area of childhood sexual abuse or other abuses, and then these strongholds will definitely keep us from God, his Saving Grace and keep us from being led by the Holy Spirit. Let’s use an example here: Let’s say that you were sexually abused as a child and the perpetrator made you feel dirty, useless or even guilty but you were taught to love your enemies but you cannot, your little mind might begin to hate the person and hate yourself. Your stronghold may become hatefulness, bitterness, and self-hate. Your suffering, your unresolved issues, your mind and your actions will tax your mind and if your mind is rogue then these strongholds will not allow you to heal. This is where rebellion toward God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit will begin to exist and stronghold will reign.

Strongholds blind us to see God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit working in our lives, or experience healing because we cannot see or experience Him at all. Strongholds also rob us of a healthy view of who we really are as the Bible says that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalms 139:14 and that is how Christ sees us when we come to Him.

My question to you today as you continue in your healing journey, what do you think is/are your strongholds?
