“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. Hebrews 1:1
In a world with
so many uncertainties and with the decline of moral values, it is hard to find
more individuals standing in the sacred place of “integrity”. For one, I am one
of those individuals who want to do what is right but time after time I do what
is not. Our Biblical ancestor brother the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans
7:15-20
15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
Brother Paul hit the nail on the head when he referred his dilemma
as sin. There are a lot of emotions in these few paragraphs that shows clearly
that Paul was troubled by doing what he should not do and not doing what he
should do. You might be asking yourself how FAITH ties into all of this. Well,
without faith it is impossible to please God and if God wants us to do his work
on earth and we find ourselves struggling then, the sin must be a lack of
FAITH.
Working with active and recovering addicts has taught me
that addiction does not need to be substance abuse but with anything that
causes you to lose your ability to make a conscious choice to stop the negative
behavior that causes you to indulge in doing what you don’t want to do but yet do.
During this negative cycle, it may seem that you may be losing your mind as thoughts
continue to bombard you day and night for not being able to stop your negative obsessive
behavior. As the cycle of guilt continues to plague the spiritual is affected.
The question is how much FAITH do you have
about a Loving God who is ready to help you break free from your pain and
torment?
