There is a lot to be said about treasures, pirates and a
damsel in distress, hence, I enjoy a good pirate love story where the girl gets
her man and they sail into the sunset. Finding treasure is a good thing if the
treasure is not someone else’s garbage. There is an old adage that says that “someone’s
garbage may be someone’s treasure” and that is true. My dad is a hoarder and he
finds the oddest of things and manages to sell them. He lives by this rule this
adage.
There are all types of treasures chest, some are filled with
rubies, pearls, diamonds, gold and other precious jewels that can make anyone
rich. Then there are things that may not be precious stones or jewelry but
their effects are the same as having a valuable treasure trove.
These treasures
are usually found in the heart. As survivors, sometimes we can place great
value on things or people not deserving our love, our time and our energy. The
abused woman believes she cannot get another man, so she holds onto treasured
memories of the good times to keep her going through the bad times. How about the man who wants to quit using
drugs to mask his pain so he treasures the memories of the first time he had
the best high and continues to search for more of the same first hit but to no
avail. So, it is safe for me to say that not all treasures are good for us.
The Bible says “for where your treasure is, there your heart
will be also” Matthew 6:21. What do you treasure most? Where is your heart?
Today, you may want to search your heart and see what treasures you are calling
treasures when in fact they may be garbage.
Search your heart and stay on your journey into healing.
