Many
years ago before some of you were born there was a show that was called “In
Search Of” with the host the Late Leonard Nimoy who also was known as Mr. Spock in the Sci-Fi television show Star Trek. This show
was amazing! They would touch on issues like finding Big Foot, Noah’s Ark, even
the Ark of the Covenant. I remember sitting and watching what they would find
next and sure enough, I was captivated. Each week, I would ask, what did they
find next and time and time again they would find things like the Loc Ness
Monster which by the way, that episode left me with no desire to swim in any
lake.
When
they “supposedly” found Noah’s Ark, I was amazed and yet, I felt a little bit
like proud that the Bible can be proven. I was only 10 or 11 years of age and
well…my father was kind of a nerdy father, he liked those shows so I watched with
him. What is interesting for me looking hindsight is that these “non-Christian”
shows were in search of something. Granted they were in search of many things
but things that pertained to the Bible were quite extraordinary.
There
is someone greater than all the shows put together from In Search Of, and that
is the Holy Ghost also known as other may say Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit
gives us the power to be all that we are to be in Christ. In Search of the Holy
Spirit takes place at the root of Christendom and that is the Bible. Searching
the scriptures with prayer and a teachable spirit, you can find the Holy Spirit
and his POWER. A power so great that even Satan and his demons hate it. We are
to search the scriptures because it gives us the power to fight the flesh. What
are the fruits of the flesh? The Bible says “The acts of the flesh are obvious:
sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of
rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I
did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21
As you continue in your healing
journey, please take a hard look at the Word of God and see what the flesh
means. I get it, some of the fruits that you read in this chapter may have been
created in you as a result from many years of abuse, neglect and hurt by
others. But, that does not change the fact that they are still fruits that are
not of the Holy Spirit. If you have been molested, sexually abused, have
experienced adverse childhood traumas you may be feeling emotions today even
though the abuse may have happened years ago. These feelings or negative
actions (i.e. fits of rage, hatred, discord, drunkenness, jealousy, selfish
ambitions and envy) may be causing you to not move into complete healing. So
what can you do? The Bible says “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:
and they are they which testify of me.” John
5:39
So,
this is how I see it working. The Holy Spirit impresses in your spirit to
search the scriptures, as you search the scriptures, you become more in tuned
with the Holy Spirit which then softens your heart to receive Jesus. With both
the Holy Spirit and Jesus, you begin to see what great things they have for
you. Jesus is truth and it is through Jesus that we have salvation. The Bible
says of Jesus “Jesus saith unto him, I am
the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 14:6
The
flesh will never lead you to seek scriptures, but once you begin to understand
about the Holy Spirit you will be able to walk by the Spirit. The Bible says “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires
of the flesh. For the flesh
desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the
flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever
you want. But if you
are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Galatians 5:16-18.
Are
you tired of being a slave to your pain and hurt because someone else decided
to try to destroy you? Today, you can make a change by reading the Word and
searching for The Holy Spirit. Enjoy the fruits that the Holy Spirit bares “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no
law. Those who belong to
Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep
in step with the Spirit. Let
us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.” Galatians 5:22-26.
Don’t
you want to experience self-control, love, joy, peace and so on and so forth?
You can have it by “Seek the Lord,
and his strength: seek his face evermore” that can only be by opening up your
Bible. The Holy Spirit may have been nudging at your heart strings this week or
even today, let Him work in you and let Him shed light on the Word “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a
light unto my path.” Psalm
119:105
Please
let me know how the Holy Spirit has been working in your life.
