In this post, I strongly believe that
finances should be covered. After all, God blesses us in our finances and there
is a level of stewardship that we should follow. I am not talking about tithing
or offerings because you have to, but it is more about what you do with your
money. I am not speaking from a wealth prosperity demonic spirit that believe
that money should be sent to specific ministries while the leaders of these
ministries are living a life of luxury but rather how are we treating our
finances.
One of my amazing friends, her name is Julie and I love to hear how she and her husband are doing their best to pay off all their debts and retire with a good nest egg. Neither she nor her husband combined is making more than $35,000 a year. But she is wise with her money. You see, Julie has been in both sides of the spectrum, she was raised in poverty, then she had a lot of money and then she was struggling and now she is content with what she and her husband are making. The spirit behind her spending is that of wisdom.
When we have been taught by our caregivers, guardians or parents not to save and spend money as soon as you get it, that is a spirit of poverty. Do not get me wrong, some may never have the riches but they are content while others, their focus is on spending more than they have and you can trace that from generation to generation. I speak from experience. I have had nothing and have had a lot. In fact, when I was living in the ritziest place in La Jolla, CA, I was still struggling to keep up with the Jones’s. Mind you, the time that I was doing well with my money was when I was focused on being a good steward of my money in the early 90’s but something changed.
Judas, he was greedy and had a love for money. He was good with money but the spirit influencing his money purse was greed and the Bible says “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10
When we have been abused and have not resolved our issues, we can get addicted to things (i.e. shopping, spend money to make others love us, pornography, drinking alcohol, addicted to foods, spending beyond our means, spending for things that do not glorify God so on and so forth) and when we do this, we are trying to placate our hurt, fill a void and avoid the core of the issue. I know I had to bold some issues that I have had been guilty of in the past. Don’t get me wrong, God wants us to have rich lives but that does not mean to be rich. He wants us to life and more abundantly and He has the plans that he has for us which are good plans. It is not always that God wants us to be rich but rather content with what He has given us.
The spirit behind prosperity pastors is not from the Holy Spirit because if we are to truly reflect Jesus, we would have the simpler life and one that keeps us humble and content. As you continue in your healing journey, ask the Holy Spirit show you how you are being influenced and what you are focusing on. Maybe the Lord is asking you to help another person with food, with the repair of someone’s car, maybe to contribute to your local college, high school or ministry. I am grateful that my friend Julie has been talking to me about what she wants to do with her nest egg. In fact, she did not know that she was really talking to me and making me see how I am handling my money. God is good!
God desires to bless you today! We are truly blessed and in being blessed, we should share our blessings. So, my question to you today is what spirit is influencing your wallet?
