The Armor of God to be used in battle is unlike any other
gear. The mere fact that we are fighting the unseen makes it an amazing
powerful armor. As you study Ephesians 6, you will be able to read the passages
of the Bible and experience firsthand our orders from the Commander in Chief,
our mission, who we are fighting and how to fight the battle between good and
evil. This Armor is activated through faith.
BREASTPLATE – “and
having on the breastplate of righteousness;”
Note:
the breastplate covers our hearts, lungs and vital organs. If we do not have
our spiritual breastplate, Satan can deceive us and turn our hearts to
inevitably to serve him. The heart is deceitful and it can be our greatest
downfall when we get hurt by others, the church and the ones that we love. “The heart is deceitful
above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9
FOOT PROTECTION - …“15 And your feet shod with the
preparation of the gospel of peace;”
Note:
In battle we must have out shoe apparel, out feet takes us everywhere. WE must
be ready as God’s warriors to move quickly and carry the gospel message to the
whole world (The Great Commission).
SHIELD - “16 Above all, taking the shield of
faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”
Note: “Without faith it is impossible”
to fight a war, for if you do not have faith in the One you are fighting for,
you will be killed instantly. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped
for, the evidence of things not seen” Hebrews 11:1. Our shield holds
the fiery wicket darts to hit us and hurt us. As we allow the Holy Spirit guide
us through the Word of God (Sword) of the Spirit, we build our faith. That does
not mean however, that we sometimes will lose our courage and our faith and
when we do, we can always go to the Word to find the encouragement that we
need, the discernment and wisdom that helps us strategize and build our faith.
Our shield is as large as our faith is. If we have little faith, we have a
little shield. If we have no faith, it is like taking a penny for a shield and trying
to shield us from a cannon ball and that is impossible. “But without faith it is
impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”. Hebrews 11:6
HELMET – “ 17 And take the
helmet of salvation,”
Note: The helmet covers our head.
When a person causes you to stumble because of their actions, we first receive
the information via our thought/mind. We process what took place and if our
mind is not on Christ “3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect
peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” Isaiah 26:3
we will lose our peace of mind. What enters the mind will sprout seeds in the
heart. If our minds begin to ruminate in the past hurts and present pain, our hearts
will sprout seeds of resentment, hatred, contention and doubt in Christ. This
is Satan’s most important weapon. If Satan resides in our minds, our hearts
will wax cold “12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love
of many shall wax cold” Matthew 24:12.
When we are discouraged, feeling
down, thinking negative, the battle within is lost. This is why we must keep or
focus and mind on Christ.
